The Wellington Sox Men’s Fastball Team has begun action for the 2010 season. First tournament action took place May 28 to 30 in St. Clements. The Sox began play on Friday, May 28 against the Mitchell Jr. Chiefs.

Mitchell Jr. Chiefs 1 Wellington Sox 6
Winning pitcher for the Sox was Nic Goetz. He pitched five strong innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out seven batters.
Offense for the Sox:
Jeremy Creeden: double, two singles, 2RBI’S and one run scored
Jeff Detta: double, single, one RBI and two runs scored
Scott MacDougall: double, two walks, one RBI and one run scored
Jeff MacPherson: double and one run scored

Alvinston Indians 11 Wellington Sox 5
This game saw the Sox take on the Alvinston Indians, who won the game 11-5, putting the Sox were put into the “B” Division.
Todd Uhrig took to the mound he allowed 11 runs on seven hits, had one strikeout and walked a batter. After two innings, Morgan Squire finished the game allowing no runs on two hits and had one strikeout.
Ron Dean lead the team with a home run, a single and one RBI.
Gary Cooke also had a thre run homer and three RBI’s.

Wellington Sox 5 Orangeville Kings 3
The Sox got back on the winning track by defeating the Orangeville Kings 5-3.
This game saw Jason Dawdy take to the hill for the Sox. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out seven batters and walked one. Leading the offense in this game was Trevor Seip with a double, single and three RBI’s.

Wellington Sox 3 Mitchell Mets 2
The Wellington Sox defeated the Mitchell Mets 3-2 on a game-winning single by Jeff Detta.
Nic Goetz was back on the mound allowing two runs, on seven hits, two of which were home runs, and struck out five batters.
Jeff Detta led the way with a home run, two RBI’s and one run scored.
Todd Uhrig: two singles and one run scored
Mike Pinder: two singles and one RBI
Ron Dean: single and one RBI
Jason Dawdy: single and scored the winning run.
With this win the Wellington Sox were into the “B” Division Championship game.

Elmira Erb Expos 6 Wellington Sox 1
The “B” Division Championship game saw the Wellington Sox play the Elmira Erb Expos.
Todd Uhrig was back on the mound for the Sox. He gave up six runs on seven hits; two were home runs, a two-run shot and a three-run shot. Morgan Squire came on to finish the game, giving up two hits and struck out two.
The team’s only hits came from Jeff Detta with a double and Jeremy Creeden with a double and single.
Jeff scored the only run while Jeremy had the only RBI.
The Sox were the tournament runnerups with three wins and two losses.
Next tournament action for the Wellington Sox will be in Mitchell at their yearly tournament, which is June 11 to 13.
