Norwell boys hockey team invades Raiders

PALMERSTON – Denver Hill scored twice and Ryan Binkle added one as the Norwell Redmen finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over the Erin Raiders.
Binkle, Jamie Hoelscher, Zach Leslie and Davin Lima had assists in the District 4/10 high school boys hockey game on Thursday, Jan. 19 in Palmerston. Aiden Renout responded for the Raiders.
Two days earlier, the Redmen (8-4) lost 6-2 to the Centre Dufferin Royals, also in Palmerston.
Binkle and Devin Williams hit the back of the net in the defeat. Hill, Hoelscher, Curtis Shorey and Brendon Aitken assisted.
Norwell has clinched third in the division and will host the Raiders in a quarter-final playoff game in mid-February. They also secured a berth a double-A CWOSSA in March.

VOLLEYBALL
In district 4 junior girls volleyball, the Redmen defeated the Royals 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-7). The club wrapped up the division with an 8-0 record, winning 20 of 25 games.
In the senior girls circuit, Norwell went a perfect 6-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-22 against the Westside Thunder, 25-10, 25-18, 25-12 versus the Royals) to improve their record to 12-0 overall. They’ve lost just once in 32 games played.
The playoff schedule for both clubs was not available as of press time.
BASKETBALL
In junior boys basketball, Travis Soehner scored 12 points and Justin Schmidt six, but Norwell lost 29-22 to the Thunder.
Schmidt netted six earlier in the week as the Redmen (6-3) defeated the Raiders 22-20.
Alex Lebbink collected ten points, Nick Amiri added eight but the seniors (0-7) fell 42-36 to the Thunder.
