Minto Peewee Reps win their own minor hockey tournament

HARRISTON – The Minto Mad Dogs hosted and won a Peewee Rep minor hockey tournament on Dec. 17 in Harriston.
Minto defeated Drayton and Mount Forest to get to the final, then took the tournament with a 3-2 shootout victory over North Middlesex.

MINTO 5 DEFENDERS 2
The Mad Dogs started their tournament with an early morning game against the Drayton Defenders.
Minto’s Brodie Hoffele opened the scoring in the first period.
Drayton scored twice in the second period to take the lead. Minto’s Brett Zabel tied it up late in the frame by putting one between the pipes on a pass from Cody Camm.
In the third, the Mad Dogs kept the pressure on by scoring three more unanswered goals for a final score of 5-2.
Scoring Minto’s final goals were Hoffele – unassisted, Tyler Canning from Camm and Tyler Quigley, and Zabel assisted by Camm. Monica Rankin played a great game in net for the Mad Dogs.

MINTO 6 RAMS 0
Minto was matched up against the Mount Forest Rams for their second game.
Ben Riley started the scoring off in the first period with an unassisted goal from the point.
Despite a fairly fast-paced game filled with penalties, the Mad Dogs came out on top with a 6–0 final.
Lucas Oxford scored twice and Zabel and Logan Wanless had the others.
Goalie Trevor Scott made some great saves to shut down the Rams.

FINAL:
MINTO 3 STARS 2 (SO)
In the final game of the tournament, Minto met the North Middlesex Jr. Stars.
Both teams came out aiming for top spot in an action packed, nail-biter game.
North Middlesex lit the scoreboard up with the first two goals.
The Mad Dogs dug deep to score two of their own in the third period.
Zabel, from Oxford and Reid Lobsinger, and Camm, assisted by Wanless and Josh Langridge, provided the offence.
Still tied at the end of regulation, these two teams headed into overtime. After one extra period the score remained tied, requiring a shootout.
It took 11 shooters from each team before Ben Riley deked the North Middlesex goalie and slid one home.
Rankin played a strong game in net and made some big saves in overtime.
