Wellington Sox named world tournament champions

The Wellington Sox Fastball Team travelled to Midland, Mich. to take part in the ISC II World Tournament, which took place Aug. 13 to 21. Forty-six teams participated in the tourney.

Game 1
The Sox started action on Saturday, Aug. 14 against USA Maccabi, Pa. They came away with a 4-2 victory.
Starting pitcher was Nic Goetz.
Winning pitcher was Todd Uhrig in relief.

Game 2
On Sunday, Aug. 15 the Wellington Sox faced Albaugh Inc., Iowa and came away with a final score of 5-3 for Wellington.

Game 3
On Monday, Aug. 16 it was the Kitchener Outlaws, Ont. vs Wellington Sox with a final score of 6-5 for Wellington.

Game 4
The game on Monday, Aug. 16 featured Pete’s Blues, Ill. vs Wellington Sox and the final score was 4-1 for Pete’s Blues.

Game 5
It was Up to Date Painting, Mich. vs. Wellington Sox on Tuesday, Aug. 17 with a final score of 1-0 for Wellington.
Starting and winning pitcher was Nic Goetz. Nic pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 K’S
Scott Walls - 1 for 2; game-winning home run at the bottom of the sixth inning

Game 6
A second game on Aug. 17 pitted the Wellington Sox vs Alvinston Indians, Ont. with Alvinston winning 5-3.

Jason Dawdy - 2 for 3
Jeff Detta - 2 for 3

Runs were scored by Aaron Small, Jeremy Creeden and Jeff Detta.
With this loss the, Sox were gunning for the ISC II Championship.

Game 7
Wednesday, Aug.18 had Waterdown Hammer, Ont. vs. Wellington Sox with Welling winning 2-1 in 10 innings.
This game was a nail biter. Starting pitcher Jason Dawdy threw four strong innings, allowing no runs on four hits. Nic Goetz came in and pitched the next four innings, allowing one run on five hits. With the game tied at one, Todd Uhrig came in and held the Hammer to two hits and no runs. At the bottom of the 10th inning, Jeff Detta, the first batter of the inning, ended the game for Wellington with a solo shot over the centre field fence. Awesome game by both teams.

Game 8  
It was Marshall Lightning, Mich. vs. Wellington Sox on Wednesday, Aug. 18, with a final score of 1-0 for Wellington.
Starting and winning pitcher - Todd Uhrig
Todd pitched a three-hit shutout while striking out 12 Lightning batters.
The First inning saw Jeff Detta reach base with a single, Todd Uhrig walked, this brought Jason Dawdy to the plate and he hit a single to drive home Jeff Detta. This was the only run of the game.

Game 9
The semifinal game on Thursday, Aug. 19 had the Quyon Flyers, QC. vs. Wellington Sox. The final score was 6-1 for Wellington. With the championship game right around the corner, the Wellington Sox put their ace Todd Uhrig on the mound for this crucial game. The Sox started with a bang, scoring four runs in the first inning. They added two more in the fifth. This win sent the Wellington Sox to the championship game.

Game 10  
The championship game was on Thursday, Aug. 19, the Wyevale Tribe, Ont. vs Wellington Sox. Starting on the mound for the Sox was Todd Uhrig. Uhrig pitched a strong five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Nic Goetz pitched the final two innings, and allowed one run on three hits. Jason Dawdy made the final two outs at first base for the Wellington Sox to win the championship.
The Wellington Sox finished the tournament with seven wins and three losses to become the 2010 ISC II World Tournament Champions.
