Youth for Christ is on the move.
After closing the doors to its Minto location, the local branch of YFC Youth Unlimited is now reopening in a mobile youth centre.
The 35-foot mobile home was purchased in July, said Pat Savage, regional director for Southwestern Ontario YFC Youth Unlimited.
“There’s lots of stuff we can do in here,” he said, adding the vehicle allows the organization to be in more places and potentially reach more people.
The mobile youth centre seats 19, and has a canopy which can be opened on the side of the vehicle, where a table and chairs can be placed underneath. There, Savage plans to continue holding the youth centre’s activities, such as dinner club, movies and discussions with the youth. The mobile youth centre offers plenty of activities, including a Wii system, board games, air hockey, a laptop computer, flatscreen television and DVD player.
Savage said he plans to take the mobile youth centre throughout Minto in order to be accessible to as many area youth as possible. In addition, Minto residents will see the mobile youth centre at local events such as fall fairs, the Town of Minto Canadian Redneck Games, “whatever Minto is hosting,” said Savage.
The mobile youth centre will rotate through the area. It will be available in Harriston, outside the Harriston youth centre, on Tuesdays, in Clifford by the Rotary Club pavilion on Wednesdays, and in Palmerston behind the United Church on Thursdays. Area youth are welcome to visit the mobile youth centre from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., beginning Thursday, Sept. 16 in Palmerston.
