The sale has gone through on the facility and property on Highway 23, formerly Midwestern Regional Centre.
The Chamshan Temple, a Buddhist organization out of Thornhill, Ont. purchased the property the beginning of June though High Point Realty in Toronto.
A spokesperson for Chamshan said there are no firm plans in place yet for the property, but it could possibly become a Buddhist retreat centre or a home for seniors.
“It’s a very beautiful site, it was a good price, we can see a lot of potential,” she said. Chamshan declined to disclose the amount paid for the property.
A number of repairs, which includes fixing a leaky roof, must be completed before the organization moves forward with any plans.
In addition, Chamshan is building a new temple in the Peterborough area, so much of the organization’s resources are focused there at the moment.
Following completion of that project, members will come up with a plan of action for the local property.
“It will sit on the backburner,” said the spokesperson. “For now, we’ll just hold on to it.”
Midwestern Regional Centre closed in 1998.
