TOWN OF MINTO — It’s been more than three decades, and Norm Fisk says he’s calling it quits.
“It’s time,” Fisk said Friday during an interview with The Minto Express.
Fisk has spent 36 years on the job and is retiring as director of public works for the Town of Minto. He was  replaced by Brian Hansen.
“It’s been a good job,” said Fisk. “I enjoyed it. I made some mistakes, made some people mad with what I did or said, but I did the best I could.”
Fisk’s career began when he was hired as a lead hand for the Town of Harriston in 1975. He was 23 years old. He worked on snow removal, cement laying, fixing broken water mains, laying sidewalks, cutting trees, maintaining the sewer system and more.
“We did it all,” said Fisk.
When then-superintendent of public works Don “Tuffy” MacDougal retired, the position was up for grabs.
“I applied for the job,” said Fisk. “I was in university (at the time) and it wasn’t my cup of tea.”
He was hired as superintendent. Upon amalgamation into the Town of Minto, the title changed to director of public works.
“It was one of those jobs where you were doing something different every day,” said Fisk. “That’s what I liked about it — variety.”
Fisk said one of the challenges of his career took place after amalgamation when he was suddenly responsible for three water systems instead of one, which was around the same time as the Walkerton water tragedy.
“I didn’t have the personnel,” he said. “It was one of those things where it was a little daunting.”...please read more in this weeks Minto Express
